Cheese Wontons Recipe

Cheese wontons are a delightful fusion of creamy cheese and crispy wonton wrappers, perfect as an appetizer or snack. Follow this step-by-step guide to make your own tasty cheese wontons at home.

  • 8 oz (225 g) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 package wonton wrappers (about 50 wrappers)
  • Water (for sealing wontons)
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)

Step 1: Prepare the Filling

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, shredded mozzarella, grated Parmesan, chopped green onions, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

Step 2: Assemble the Wontons

  1. Place a wonton wrapper on a clean, flat surface. Keep the other wrappers covered with a damp cloth to prevent them from drying out.
  2. Place about 1 teaspoon of the cheese filling in the center of the wonton wrapper.
  3. Dip your finger in water and moisten the edges of the wrapper.
  4. Fold the wrapper in half to form a triangle, pressing the edges together to seal.
  5. For a more secure seal, fold the two bottom corners of the triangle together and press them firmly.

Step 3: Fry the Wontons

  1. In a deep pan or pot, heat vegetable oil over medium heat to 350°F (175°C). You can test the oil by dipping a small piece of wonton wrapper into it; if it sizzles, the oil is ready.
  2. Carefully add a few wontons to the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pan.
  3. Fry the wontons for 2-3 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy, turning occasionally to ensure even cooking.
  4. Use a slotted spoon to remove the wontons from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

Step 4: Serve

  1. Serve the cheese wontons hot with your favorite dipping sauce, such as sweet chili sauce, soy sauce, or a spicy mayo.

  • Ensure the cream cheese is at room temperature for easier mixing.
  • Be careful not to overfill the wonton wrappers to prevent leakage during frying.
  • If you prefer baking over frying, preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C), place the wontons on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, lightly brush them with oil, and bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.

Enjoy your homemade cheese wontons, crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside!
