Shrimp Dumplings Recipe

  • 250g shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1 green onion, finely chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 20-25 round dumpling wrappers
  • Water for sealing dumplings
  • Optional: cilantro leaves for garnish

  1. Prepare the Shrimp Filling:
    • In a food processor, pulse the shrimp until coarsely chopped.
    • Transfer chopped shrimp to a bowl and add soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, sugar, salt, white pepper, green onion, garlic, and cornstarch. Mix well until combined.
  2. Assemble the Dumplings:
    • Place a small spoonful of filling in the center of a dumpling wrapper.
    • Moisten the edges of the wrapper with water using your fingertip.
    • Fold the wrapper in half over the filling to create a half-moon shape. Pinch the edges together to seal. You can pleat the edges for a decorative look if desired. Repeat with the remaining wrappers and filling.
  3. Cook the Dumplings:
    • Option 1: Steam Dumplings
      • Place dumplings in a single layer in a steamer lined with parchment paper or cabbage leaves.
      • Steam over boiling water for 8-10 minutes until cooked through.
    • Option 2: Pan-Fry Dumplings (Potstickers)
      • Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat.
      • Place dumplings in the skillet, flat side down. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the bottoms are golden brown.
      • Carefully add 1/2 cup of water to the skillet and cover immediately to steam the dumplings.
      • Cook for another 5-6 minutes until the water evaporates and the bottoms are crisp.
  4. Serve:
    • Arrange the shrimp dumplings on a serving plate.
    • Garnish with cilantro leaves if desired.
    • Serve hot with soy sauce or your favorite dipping sauce.
